Splits should contain tabs not the other way around. #3568

Might make sense if you were writing a brand new editor from scratch, but I don't think changing it now after all these years is a good idea. There's no clear advantage to doing it either way, and our users have already gotten familiar with how it is currently. It would be a disruptive change. |

I also think the current implementation of tabs is a bit redundant, as the same functionality can be achieved through tmux, terminal tabs, opening windows, OS workspaces... However, I don't see a reason as to why splits couldn't have their own tabs, other than its probably not so easy to implement. Giving each "pane" (don't know if this is the correct term for it) its own set of tabs. |

Micro has tabs and each tab can contain splits, if you switch to a different tab you can't see the split view anymore. I think it should be the other way around splits should contain tabs that way you can change a tab but still view your internal terminal for ex.
That's how is done in every editor I know of.
What do you guys think? Can this be implemented someday?
