How to replace abandoned plugins

I'm working to revive Paleterro and Filemanager. Their maintainers have been unresponsive for years. Would it be preferable to republish them with a suffix like -plus (common in the VS Code Marketplace) or replace the originals as "blessed" forks? I suspect renaming will be more sustainable since forks have a chance of ending up in the same condition as the originals.

Palettero was accepted to plugin-channel less than two months ago, so the development is ongoing.

Great news! The sparse activity and unanswered PRs confused me. I made a significant refactor and feature changes (not pushed yet) which may not be mergeable anymore. Would you prefer to coordinate in my own PR or on Discord?

Open a PR on Palettero for the feature you'd like to be merged. The integration point for other plugins is interesting, but needs to be tested.

I already merged and refined terokarvinen/palettero#4 which was also closed. I'll tag you in the PR on my fork for testing this week. If you like my changes I'll work to rebase them back to yours! If it remains a fork I'm open to a better name than my suffix 💯

I am actually having the same question. I have just fixed misspell plugin but not sure where to put it.
The original one is not maintained for 8 years (https://github.com/CamilleScholtz/micro-misspell-plugin)
The updated one in here is just empty,

I see people are creating PRs to link to their repo instead on plugin-channel, I guess I should be doing that instead.

Sorry just adding context! I know all devs get pulled in multiple directions. It'd be ideal if Zachary opened those to micro's core team too.
