3.5inch RPI LCD (B) not displaying correctly in CLI

I have the 3.5in RPI (B) v2 display connected to a RPI v3. The RPI is configured to boot to CLI and not the desktop. The display doesn't refresh correctly in either portrait or landscape mode. Commands can be entered but the display is jumbled with the boot messages. Ultimately, I need to boot to CLI and run just my Qt application using "xinit myapp". My app and RPI configuration works correctly using HDMI and a monitor.

I have the same issue but with the 3.5in RPI (A). Would like to boot the pi in to CLI and work from there. Like you the boot test seems to not be cleared. When I type a command you can see the correct information flash briefly on the screen then it goes back to having the boot text on the screen.
