This is more of an FYI than an issue. Something perhaps to keep in mind. Not sure there is a nice solution.
Describe the issue
I've been a happy UTM user for a while and wanted to show my appreciation by paying and downloading the app from the App Store. <3
First I made sure my VM and UTM were at the latest 4.6.4 version, then I deleted the downloaded version and installed from the App Store. When I tried to boot my VM again, it got stuck on a black screen. Took me a while to realize that the App Store is still 4.6.3. I assumed that was the problem, so I uninstalled the App Store version again and installed the latest from download. Now everything works again. I think I need to wait until the App Store version is updated and try again.
I understand the App Store introduces some delay in the release, and ensuring backwards compatibility for VMs previously booted on a newer version might be technically challenging. Perhaps you could consider delaying the release on the site for download to match the release in the App Store to avoid version mismatches for users who upgrade to paid?
Configuration
4.6.4 downloaded and 4.6.3 from App Store.
macOS Version: 15.2 (24C101)
Mac Chip (Intel, M1, ...): Apple M1 Pro

The problem is that App Store releases are approved by Apple. It's impossible to predict when that happens. Sometimes it takes an hour and other times it takes a week and sometimes even longer.
