Pledge Discussions

I'm maintaining a repository that uses discussion for feature requests: https://github.com/udecode/plate/discussions/categories/feature-requests. In our case, issues are used only for bugs to filter idea pollution.

I'd love to have an option to pledge discussion (ideally for a specific category) in addition to issues, that would prevent us to convert these discussions to issues.

Thank you @zbeyens for the great feedback – we really appreciate it 🙏🏼 Completely understand and definitely something we would want to support to avoid you having to change workflows.

Follow-up questions: In case you could choose a specific category: Would you want all of those discussions to automatically get the badge? Or would you want to do it on a case-by-case basis vs. by category?

Thanks for the quick answer @birkjernstrom. Ideally we'd input the specific category from Polar, since GitHub has customizable categories. An empty input value could mean "All Discussions". We're already setting automatic badges on issues so we'd like the same for discussions.

I'll take a look at your active and archived discussions over the weekend to get some inspiration.

I've been thinking about this a bit. Issues, discussions and PRs all share a similar base data structure at GitHub. Would be interesting to implement badging accordingly and even support funding/tipping towards PRs in the process. Will explore and think about the best approach this weekend.

Hey @zbeyens. Just wanted to follow-up here. I thought about this a bit over the weekend and have a good sense of how this should best be implemented. However, it's a bit of a bigger lift technically + would require dedicated UI as well to expose discussions vs. issues. So I estimate it would likely take 1-2 weeks.

Given that our backlog/roadmap is quite packed in the short-term, I cannot guarantee when we'll be able to prioritize this, but I hope it's something we can support in a few months. Honestly, I got so excited thinking about it over the weekend and how the technical solution could be leveraged towards PRs as well. So I'm definitely keen on getting there :-) Just don't want to give false promises in terms of rough timeline. I hope that works and that we can get you fully onboard sooner rather than later.
